Information from Civil War file , certificate #21389, Private, Company B. 98th OHIO, Capt. J.R. Mitchell's company. Enlisted 6 Aug. 1862 for three years. Age 25 years, 6ft tall, dark complexion, gray eyes, black hair, farmer.
Suffered gunshot wound to right elbow, "shattering the bone ". Discharged on 30 Dec. 1862 at Louisville, KY. On the eighth day of Oct. 1862, at Perryville KY, he was wounded by gunshot in the right elbow , which disabled both hand and arm.
Phineas claimed to have married Martha Turner, but divorced her in 1889, in a pension form dated 3 Jun. 1898
File held a certified copy of the divorce decree of Martha J. Campbell and Phineas C. Campbell. Records in Journal Vol. 5 page 162. Phineas to pay $200 each year alimony each year for 5 years, Children to remain in Martha's custody.
Certified copy of marriage record from Logan, Hocking Co. Ohio. Phineas Campbell and Catherine McQuaide were married on 28 Aug. 1892 by Elmer C. Conway, minster. Widow's application for accrued pension, Catherine states that wedding took place at Union Furnace in Ohio.
Catherine Campbell received 1/2 of husband's pension. She was abandon by Phineas, but never divorced.
Information from Catherine Campbell dated 18 Aug 1904. (Catherine was 55) Phineas was killed by the rail-way train on 6 Jan. 1903 (04).
He was buried by Mr. Rickabaugh at the Coalton Cemetery in Jackson Co. OH on 15 Jan 1904.

Ebenezer was killed in the Civil War in Atlanta Ga His mother was granted a survivor's pension. Certificate # 289,501 and 206,748.
Private, Co I, 20TH Ohio Infantry. Killed 22 July 1864 at Atlanta, GA while bearing the colors.
James Washington and Eleanor Campbell owned about one and half acre of land laying one half mile south west of Olivett and about three north of the town of Barnesville, Belmont Co. OH. To be worth $150.( Signed Jiles( Giles) Tillet) Belmont Co. auditor stated that land owned by Ebenezer And Eleanor was worth between $95 ana $231 between 1863 and 1868.
James W. and Eleanor Campbell sold lot #30 in Olivett, Ohio to Jiles Tillet for $250. It was recorded in Volume 46, page 278 and 279 in the records of deeds in Belmont Co. Ohio 13 Oct.1868.
Mary Campbell Was a close neighbor and knew James and Eleanor Campbell from 1836 to 1872. She knew all the children and certified that they in fact Eleanor's. Mary signed by marl which was witnesses by Lydia Campbell and John M. Gardner. ( evidence that the Campbells were in Ohio by 1836.
Samatha Campbell Tillet and Emza M. Campbell Castello of Pugh and Olivett stated that they knew James Washington Campbell ( their father ) and certified that that he was disabled 1/4 of the time in 1863 and over half the time in 1871. He had rheumatism and had to use crutches.

Information from Jiles (sometimes spelled Giles ) Tillet Civil War pension folder. Mary received a widow's survivor pension, certificate # 809,577.
Jiles record, enlisted 23 Sept 1862 discharged 17 July 1862. Re-in listed 29 July 1863, discharged 14 Dec. 1864. Invalid claim 3 Jan. 1863 Died 24 Feb.1921. Widow's claim filed, 18 March 1921. Served in CO. K, 15 Regiment of OH Volunteer Infantry. Also served as Pvt. in Lt. Jos. L. Smith's Co. (111) 2nd bat. Veteran Reserve Corps, USA
Jiles Tillet was wounded in the battle of Shiloh, TN ON 7 Apr. 1862. He was Severely wounded in the thigh near the hip by a ball fired from the ranks of the rebels. Sworn by Captain Otto S. Holloway, captain of Co. K of the 15th Regiment of OH Volunteer Infantry at the battle of Shiloh.
Certified copy of marriage record states that Giles A. Tillet and Mary S. Campbell were married on 13 Feb. 1868 by James Ropell, Minister of the Gospel. Recorded in Record of Marriages, Vol. 11, page 115 at Belmont Co. OH.
Mr. W.E. Emerson was the undertaker in Barnesville, OH. He officiated at the funeral of Jiles Tillet. Jiles died on 24 Feb. 1921 and was buried at Northern Cemetery at Barnesville, OH
H.R. 11224 of 17 Feb. 1931 increased Mary's pension to $50 per month. This act of Congress was reported by the Veteran's Administration. It included a brief biography of Mary and Jiles. Mary was then 81 years of age (in 1931). She was living at Kennard Ave. in Barnesville with James and Ruth Hardesty (her sister)
Drop report stated that Mary S. Tillit died on 28 Nov. 1932
Ruth E. Hardesty applied for reimbursement for final care and burial for Mary Tillet. Ruth was her nurse for the last 4 years of Mary's life, after Mary broke her hip in a fall and became bedridden. Her sister Ruth E. Hardesty nursed and cared for her for entire time. Dated 17 March 1933. Another document states that her caretaker is sister Ruth E. Hardesty aged 82 and that Mr. Hardesty the husband of Ruth is still older and their earning power is long past, and they two now live along. Dated 18 March 1932.
